MADE IN USA

The LS-8042 .020" Oversize Lower Press-Fit Counterbore Bushing is a precision-machined repair bushing designed to restore the lower press-fit bore in Cummins NH, NT, NTC, N14, 855, and other 5.5-inch bore engine blocks that have experienced wear, fretting, or damage in the cylinder liner press-fit area.

Unlike a standard replacement bushing, the LS-8042 features a +.020" oversize outside diameter, allowing engine rebuilders to salvage blocks that no longer meet OEM specifications after inspection or machining. Rather than replacing an expensive cylinder block, the damaged lower bore is machined to the proper repair dimension and fitted with the LS-8042, restoring the interference fit required to properly support the cylinder liner.

Cummins Lower Press-Fit (LPF) engines depend on precise liner retention below the counterbore. If the lower press-fit bore becomes oversized from corrosion, cavitation, fretting, or repeated rebuilds, the liner can lose its proper interference fit, resulting in:

  • Reduced liner stability
  • Loss of liner protrusion
  • Coolant leakage
  • Counterbore movement
  • Premature head gasket failure

The LS-8042 is manufactured to OEM-quality tolerances and is intended for use after the block has been machined to accept a +.020" oversize repair bushing. Once installed, the finished bore can be machined or honed to restore the correct lower press-fit dimension for the replacement liner. This provides a durable, economical alternative to replacing an otherwise serviceable engine block.

Why It Matters

The lower press-fit bore is responsible for supporting and stabilizing the cylinder liner beneath the counterbore. Once this bore exceeds Cummins specifications, the block can no longer properly retain the liner without repair. Installing an oversize repair bushing restores the critical interference fit that maintains liner stability, correct protrusion, and long-term head gasket reliability. Cummins service procedures specify machining to oversize dimensions when standard LPF bore limits are exceeded, making repair bushings like the LS-8042 an essential part of professional engine rebuilding.
