Cam removal on a Mack E7 doesn’t have to mean dropped lifters or cam damage. The ATC37720 (J-37720-C equivalent) holds every roller lifter securely above the cam — even in tight RD cabs. Follow this step-by-step guide to do it right.

Step 1: Assemble the Rods (RD Cab)

In tight RD cabs, keep the two rod sections separate. Screw together only if full length is needed. Lightly oil threads for smooth assembly.

Step 2: Lower into Pushrod Opening

Insert rod through pushrod hole until it contacts the roller lifter. Use a flashlight to confirm contact. Do this for all 12 cylinders (E7).

Step 3: Lift & Lock with Grommet

Gently lift rod 1/4" until lifter clears cam lobe. Slide included rubber grommet down the shaft to lock rod in place. Repeat on all cylinders.

Pro Safety Tip

Always rotate engine to BDC on each cylinder before inserting rod. Prevents lifter from being on cam high point.

Step 4: Remove Camshaft

With all lifters held up, the camshaft is now free. Remove front cover, timing gears, and slide cam out. No lifter interference.
