Whether you are replacing a camshaft or performing a front-end overhaul, cam gear alignment is the most critical step of the assembly. The ATC J45946 fixture is the only way to verify indexing before the front cover is sealed.

Phase 1-5: Prep & Tool Placement

  1. TDC Verification: Ensure the #1 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke.
  2. Clean Surfaces: Remove all oil from the gear teeth and the housing alignment points.
  3. Gear Seating: Position the cam gear onto the camshaft loosely.
  4. Fixture Engagement: Install the J45946 fixture, ensuring the pins seat fully into the gear and housing alignment holes.
