Pro Procedure: Prepping Injector Bores with the ATC-50137

By Blogdashfdhd Adminvsbgfsf

Cleanliness is next to Godliness in diesel repair. Follow this 10-step guide to ensure your HEUI or EUI injectors seal perfectly every time using the ATC-50137 brush kit.

Why Copper Bristles are the Gold Standard

Many technicians make the mistake of using a generic steel wire brush from a hardware store. Steel is harder than the cast iron or aluminum of the cylinder head; it leaves scratches that fuel and compression can bypass. The ATC-50137's copper bristles are tough on carbon but gentle on the metal, preserving the mirror-finish needed for a high-pressure seal.

The 10-Step Bore Cleaning Protocol

  1. Extract & Inspect: Remove the old injector and check for a missing copper washer—if it's stuck in the bore, remove it before brushing.
  2. Vacuum First: Use a shop vac with a small tip to pull out loose debris.
  3. Select the Brush: Choose the ATC-50137 brush that matches your nozzle diameter.
  4. Manual Scrub: Insert the brush and rotate clockwise to break up heavy carbon.
  5. Low-Speed Drill: For stubborn soot, use a drill on the LOWEST speed setting.
  6. Fuel Gallery Clear: Use the specialized thin brush to clear the fuel entrance ports.
  7. Solvent Rinse: Use a lint-free swab with brake cleaner to wipe the bore.
  8. Final Inspection: Use a bore scope or mirror to ensure the bottom seat is shiny and bare metal.
  9. Lube the O-Rings: Apply clean engine oil to your new injector seals.
  10. Torque to Spec: Drop the injector into a bore that is now "ATC-Clean."

Critical Shop Warnings

DIESEL SERVICE DANGERS:

  • ❌ Never Blow Air: Do not use compressed air to blow out a bore; this pushes debris into the cylinder, risking piston damage.
  • ❌ Missing Washers: Brushing over an old stuck washer will ruin the seal. Verify the old washer is out first!
  • ❌ Drill Speed: High-speed drilling with brushes can generate enough heat to melt copper residue onto the bore surface. Slow and steady wins.
