Step 1: Prep the Piston & Rings
Clean the piston grooves and rings. Apply lubricant to rings and bore. Stagger ring gaps (top at 12 o'clock, oil at 3/9). Pro Tip: Use with anti-polishing kits for ISX to avoid liner scratches.
Step 2: Position the Compressor
Open the ATC-7040 clamshell and place around the piston, aligning with rings. Close evenly for uniform compression – no pinching.
Step 3: Insert into Bore
Align piston with block. Gently tap with rubber mallet while holding compressor. Rings slide in without snags on C-15 or ISX bores.
Step 4: Remove Compressor & Torque
Once rings are in, open compressor and remove. Torque rod to spec. Check for smooth rotation – no binding.
Step 5: Clean Up & Repeat
Wipe tool clean. Repeat for all cylinders. Pairs well with ATC5299448 kit for APR liners.
